Copyright Policy

Commitment to Author Rights and Open Scholarship

Universitas: Journal of Global Research and Innovation (UJGRI) supports the principles of open scholarship and the broad dissemination of scientific knowledge. The journal recognizes that authors should retain ownership of their intellectual property while enabling the widest possible distribution and responsible reuse of their published research.

To promote accessibility, collaboration, and innovation, all articles published in the journal are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license unless otherwise specified.

1. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain the copyright to their published work.

Upon acceptance for publication, authors grant Universitas: Journal of Global Research and Innovation a non-exclusive license to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, preserve, and identify itself as the original publisher of the work.

Because the license is non-exclusive, authors remain free to use, share, and disseminate their work in accordance with the terms of the Creative Commons license and the journal's publication policies.

2. Creative Commons License

All published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

This license permits anyone to:

  • read, download, copy, and redistribute the work in any medium or format;

  • share the work for educational, research, or commercial purposes;

  • adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the work for any lawful purpose;

provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s), the journal is acknowledged as the original publisher, a link to the Creative Commons license is provided, and any modifications are clearly indicated.

3. Author Rights

Authors retain the right to:

  • use their published work in teaching, research, presentations, and professional activities;

  • reproduce portions of their work in future publications, provided appropriate acknowledgment of the original publication is included;

  • deposit the accepted manuscript or the published Version of Record in institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal websites, or other non-commercial or commercial scholarly platforms in accordance with the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license;

  • share published articles through academic networking platforms and scholarly communication channels while maintaining proper citation to the journal; and

  • disseminate preprints before submission or during the review process, provided that any subsequent published version appropriately cites the final journal publication when available.

The journal encourages responsible dissemination of published research to maximize visibility, accessibility, and scholarly impact.

4. Publication Agreement

Before publication, authors are required to complete the journal's publication documentation, which may include:

  • a Publication License Agreement;

  • an Author Declaration confirming originality and authorship;

  • a Conflict of Interest Disclosure;

  • funding and acknowledgment statements, where applicable; and

  • other publication forms required by the editorial office.

Completion of these documents confirms that the authors have the legal authority to publish the submitted work and agree to the journal's publication policies.

5. Third-Party Copyrighted Materials

Authors are responsible for obtaining all necessary permissions for the use of copyrighted materials owned by third parties, including but not limited to:

  • figures;

  • photographs;

  • illustrations;

  • tables;

  • maps;

  • lengthy textual excerpts; and

  • other copyrighted content requiring permission under applicable copyright laws.

Authors must provide appropriate acknowledgments and documentation of permissions whenever required.

Failure to obtain the necessary permissions may delay publication or result in rejection of the manuscript.

6. Archiving and Preservation

To ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of published scholarship, the journal archives all published articles through its designated digital preservation and indexing services.

Published articles remain part of the permanent scholarly record and may continue to be accessed, cited, and preserved even if the journal's publishing platform changes over time.

7. Corrections, Retractions, and Scholarly Record

Universitas is committed to preserving the integrity of the scholarly record.

When necessary, the journal may publish:

  • Corrections (Errata or Corrigenda) to address errors that do not invalidate the research findings;

  • Expressions of Concern when potential ethical issues require further investigation; or

  • Retractions when significant errors, research misconduct, plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, or other serious ethical violations render the published work unreliable.

These actions are undertaken in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and are intended to maintain transparency and trust in the scholarly literature.

8. Compliance with International Publishing Standards

Universitas: Journal of Global Research and Innovation follows internationally recognized principles governing copyright, licensing, and scholarly publishing. The journal's copyright practices are consistent with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Creative Commons licensing framework, and other recognized standards for ethical and responsible scholarly communication.

This version is legally stronger because it correctly uses a non-exclusive publishing license (the standard model for CC BY journals), clearly separates copyright ownership from publishing rights, supports repository deposits and preprints without naming specific platforms, and places post-publication corrections and retractions within the broader framework of maintaining the scholarly record in accordance with COPE.
